W.D. Gann insisted that "the future is but a repetition of the past." He did not mean history repeats verbatim. He meant that orbital geometry repeats, and because markets are timed by collective human attention, they echo these geometries.

Wilson-Walker decoded Gann's 1927 novel The Tunnel Thru The Air and found that character names, page totals, paragraph counts, and even "fake quotes" all encode planetary orbital periods. When multiple independent decoding methods converge on the same number, confidence increases.

Rules — How to Project a Planetary Cycle

1. Select an anchor. Use a significant market high/low, an eclipse, a conjunction, or an economic event (NFP, CPI, FOMC).
2. Choose the planetary period. Match the planet to the timeframe:
   • Intraday/swing: Mercury-Venus (144 days) or Moon (27–29 days)
   • Intermediate: Venus synodic (584 days)
   • Long-term: Jupiter-Saturn (19.85 years) or Mars-Jupiter (22 years)
3. Multiply by integers. 1×, 2×, 3× the base period. Master numbers often appear when doubling.
4. Mark the projection. Add the cycle length to your anchor date. Draw a ±1–2 week reaction zone around it.
5. Demand confluence. A single cycle is an opinion. Two overlapping cycles are evidence. Three are a command.

Worked Example — Venus 8-Year on S&P 500

From the book: Venus completes a five-pointed star every 8 years (8 × 584 = 4,672 days ≈ 418 weeks). Wilson-Walker applied this to S&P 500 weekly charts and found consistent alignment with swing highs and lows across decades.

Step-by-step:

1. Identify a major S&P 500 turning point (e.g., March 2009 low).
2. Project forward 418 weeks (plus the 52-week anniversary date for fine-tuning).
3. Mark the reaction zone in purple. Watch for consolidation, reversal, or breakout.
4. Confirm with a second cycle—perhaps the 40-week lunar eclipse cycle or the 108-hour intraday cycle.

Common Mistakes

• Treating cycles as exact predictions. They are anchors projecting probability windows, not guaranteed tops or bottoms.
• Ignoring the Two Options. If you only calculate with 27.3-day Moon and the market moves on the 29.5-day rhythm, you will miss the turn.
• Trading a single cycle in isolation. Confluence with technical patterns is mandatory.
• Forgetting market-specific variation. Apple responds to Venus (33/66 weeks). Gold responds to lunar eclipses (41 weeks). Crude oil alternates 36 and 41 weeks. One size does not fit all.

Psychology — The Captain's Temper

Gann described a "huge room in his head" where memories existed as shapes, textures, and colours. Richard Wyckoff called him "gifted mathematically." Wilson-Walker argues this was an understatement—no average person could manually encode thousands of cycle references across a 300-page novel without computers.

The modern trader does not need Gann's savant-like ability. You need patience and discipline. The method works; the practitioner fails. Cycles require you to wait for the window, then wait for confirmation within the window. Two forms of patience, one edge.
