A-B-C-D Setup Calculator
Based on the Action/Reaction methodology from Advanced Swing Trading by John Crane. Input your swing points to calculate the complete trade plan.
How This Calculator Works
Trigger Price: The 50% retracement of the Reaction swing (B to C). This is your entry point. Place a stop order at this level and wait for the market to hit it before calculating target and duration — the Two-Day Rule.
Target Price: The Action swing range (A to B) projected from the trigger. For longs, add the range to the trigger. For shorts, subtract it.
Protective Stop: Placed below the low of the Reaction swing (for longs) or above the high (for shorts). Adjust based on your personal risk tolerance — this is only a suggested level.
Projected D-Date: Count forward from C by the same number of days as your reverse count (B→A). Include holidays. This is your time-based exit if price has not hit target or stop.
Example: Long Setup
Inputs: A = 71.20 | B = 72.85 | C = 71.20 | Reverse Count = 14 days | Direction = Long
Trigger: (72.85 + 71.20) ÷ 2 = 72.02
Target: 72.02 + (72.85 − 71.20) = 73.67
Stop: Below C = 71.20 (or your chosen level)
Risk:Reward: 0.82 : 1.65 = 1:2.0
D-Date: C date + 14 trading days (including holidays)
